AN EDITABLE STARTING POINT
Reading in a narrow column
Use a quieter heading scale and shorter measure for sustained reading on a narrow screen.
This example uses a measure of 44 ch, a 17-pixel base, and a 1.8 line height. A modest heading scale creates a quieter hierarchy for examining long paragraphs in a narrow column.
Use a sample containing brackets, quotation marks, numbers, and URLs. Look for awkward closing punctuation at line starts, overflowing links, and a final heading character stranded on its own line. Avoid inserting manual breaks to fit one particular phone width.
Next, switch to a serif font while keeping the other values fixed. If the apparent size or density changes, revisit line height. A font name in the configuration does not prove that the target device has loaded that font.
Judge the exported style in the real page, where text zoom, navigation, and actual content also affect reading. Pair this exercise with “What to check after the contrast ratio” and inspect the foreground and background of body copy, links, and hints separately.
The ZIP includes editable parameters, an SVG preview and usage notes. Export the final PNG from the workbench. Fonts have their own licenses.
